Redorange took on the challenge of designing and developing the brand identity for Malta International Contemporary Art Space, slated to debut in 2022. Crafting a timeless identity that aligns with global standards in contemporary art posed a significant challenge. Our primary goal was to create an identity that honours Malta's rich heritage, echoing its history, and reflecting the evolution of its environment and culture.
This visual representation had to seamlessly integrate with the museum's surroundings, respecting and complementing the environment. MICAS's project footprint extends along the Polverista Curtain to the La Vittoria Bastion, the adjacent Ritirata, and San Salvatore Counterguard, featuring a spectacular arcone, or skewed arch. The interior galleries will inhabit the Ritirata, a structure serving as an inner line of defence, comprising a trench and parapet fortification to safeguard against breaches in outer defences.
The overarching design objective is to harmonize the delicate equilibrium between traditional Maltese exterior stone and state-of-the-art interior elements.
